Cruelty Free Mascaras You Seriously Need to Try Now

MASCARAS

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
I’m now on my second tube of this stuff and I love it as much as I did the first time I used it. It gives me some seriously gorgeous lashes. See my super detailed review.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
This is a great volumizing mascara. Use a lash comb to separate your lashes with this one as it is prone to clumping up on me otherwise. If you’re a size queen, you will love the brush on this one. See my review.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius
This is a mascara must have in my book! It’s a clear topcoat that you can use before or after mascara that makes any mascara waterproof. So you can use your favorite mascara and make it waterproof and not have to worry about flaking or smudging. See my review.

Perversion, Better Than Sex and Lash Genius are my all-time top 3 favorite mascara products and Subversion primer (below) will soon be added to that short list.

Eyeko Alexa Chung Lash Enhancing Eye Do Mascara
With an oversized brush and a water-resistant formula, this promises a doe-eyed sixties look.

Paula’s Choice MegaLength Mascara
This mascara swears not to smudge, flake or clump. It’s also supposed to give you longer and stronger lashes.

Ardency Inn PUNKER Volume and Curl Lash Wax
With a super-sized curved brush, this mascara is supposed to give you lots of volume and curl with a wax-based formula. It’s inspired by hairstyling pomades.

tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara
With lofty claims of lengthening, curling, volumizing and conditioning, this mascara vows to give you everything you need. I’ve found it does a good job of lengthening.

tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes™ Statement Mascara
This one claims to lengthen, curl, and amplify volume by up to 752% (crazy claim!) However, I have achieved some super lush lashes with this mascara and I especially like the brush that comes with it.

bareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara
I love the short hard rubbery brush and the ultra black formula for this one.

MASCARA PRIMERS

Urban Decay Subversion Mascara Primer
This stuff is awesome for me. Since I can’t use fiber type mascaras (they always seem to get into my eyes and under my contacts and it’s uncomfortable), I love a good primer.

Cargo LashActivator Mascara Primer
This is the best black mascara primer that I’ve ever tried. It’s also supposed to help your lashes grow thicker and reduce lash loss.

TREATMENT

Cargo LashActivator Night Treatment
This is supposed to help you grow longer, fuller and more lush lashes. My problem is remembering to use it every night. It doesn’t burn my eyes or irritate them the way other lash serums have in the past.

HOW I APPLY MASCARA

  1. Work on one eye at a time.
  2. Curl my lashes. I use an Urban Decay Cageless Lash Curler that I purchased a few years ago but they no longer sell it. Here’s another cageless lash curler from Amazon that looks great.
  3. Apply my mascara primer.
  4. Apply 1 to 2 coats of mascara.
  5. Finish with a coat of Anastasia Lash Genius.
  6. Comb through lashes with a lash comb if you need to. I use this Sonia Kashuk Lash Comb.

MASCARA REMOVAL

I use Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover. I saturate a cotton round and hold it against my eye for 15 seconds or so and then wipe downwards.

  1. Do you know if CVS house brand is cruelty free? Because their eye and lip makeup remover is very affordable and works well.

    1. I don’t know (I really doubt it), but I can try to find out for you 🙂 If you’re looking for affordable, I highly recommend coconut oil. It works wonders for most products. You just saturate a cotton pad, hold that against your eye for about 30 seconds, gently tapping with your finger tips (like you were playing keys on a piano), then gently sweep downwards.

  2. Hi Courtney! Hope you are getting a lot of rest and relaxing and that you’re feeling much better! I’m actually flying out to Florida tonight-going to be visiting my college friends in Delray Beach!

  3. That Seki Edge Total Control lash curler is EVERYthing. I’ve used it for the last 7 years. Beautiful, easy curls. No pinching. I never really change the pad and it still works great. I’ve gone through a few and have multiple backups. Also love Lash Genius. –Angela

  4. I love UD supercurl, and you’re reminding me I haven’t given it love lately! I know this isn’t totally in line with your blog, but I NEED a med-full coverage foundation for mature skin! Young-looking for my age, but I AM 58 years old after all 🙂 Any ideas from you or your followers would be greatly appreciated!

  5. I actually love Blinc mascara, and they are cruelty-free too. I hated all other mascaras I tried before I decided to try tubing mascara and honestly I’ll never go back!

  6. Excellent picks! I love using BM Flawless Definition as a base coat then Perversion to amp up the volume. I HAVE to get Lash Genius! Ooh, and thanks for the heads up on the Seki curler.

  7. I love the UD Perversion mascara. I haven’t tried it with the primer but it works so well I kind of wonder how much I need the primer. Thanks for a CF list of options.
