Recently I picked up several of the Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Sticks.

The Website Claims:
Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick works three full-time jobs—it defines the shape of lips like a liner, fills them in with creamy velvet color, and then plumps them to their full buxom potential. It’s a three-in-one lipstick that’s quick and convenient for defined, colorful, buxom lips anytime, anywhere. The formula contains a deep infusion of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E for soft, smooth lips. It also comes with a built-in sharpener.

Does it live up to its claims?
I’d say it lives up to two and a half out of three. It does work well as a liner. It gives lovely, creamy matte color, which I like. While it’s a bit minty and tingles, I don’t visibly see any plumping on my lips when I look in the mirror, but when I compare me wearing the lip sticks to other lip products of mine, I do feel they look a tad fuller. They’re also a bit drying if you don’t put on lipbalm first. I always use lipbalm with SPF before I put on any lip product and I think without that it would be more problematic. If you’re not a fan of the matte lip, you can always stick a clear gloss on top, though I really like how the finish looks with this product. I actually think the finish partially adds to your lips looking fuller. If you put a gloss over it, any sort of gloss, it really does make your lips look amazing.

Monte Carlo with MAC Naturally Eccentric on top, which I think makes my lips look fuller. Naturally Eccentric is a lustre finish, so it’s got a bit of shine, even if it’s not a gloss.

Monte Carlo with Inglot Gloss in 544 on top, which I think REALLY makes my lips look plump.

I don’t like that the packaging alternates between printing the names on the bottom and around the sides. I prefer the names printed around the sides, but more importantly, I prefer there to be consistency within a line of products.

I also think that the color descriptions seem a bit off on Sephora’s site. I don’t think San Francisco looks like a mauve shade. Monte Carlo looks more like a fuchsia than a magenta to me, as I think magenta tends to have more violet in it. I think Vienna is a great pink on my skintone. I also like Acapulco as well. Tokyo is a great red. Nantucket is a nice peach nude shade. Milan is a deep apricot-peach with a hint of brown.

Would I purchase again?
Yes! I bought 3 and loved them so much I went back and bought several more. Even if they don’t appear to plump my lips to my eyes, I like the lipstick/lipliner in one, the minty sensation, packaging, ease of application, colors and pigmentation. I’ve not used a lot of Buxom products, but I definitely think this one is a winner!

Have you tried anything from Buxom? What do you think of them? Have you tried these Lip Sticks? If so, what did you think?

Products purchased by me. All opinions are my own.
